Lab Usage Rules
Students who want to use the C-13 or B-20 computer labs must abide by the policy guidelines listed below. Your id card will be programmed to open the doors by sliding it against the scanner. The door locks will be programmed 1 week after the start of classes.
- Please use the hand sanitizer each time you enter.
- The electronic lock is both for security and for logging usage of the lab.
- During class times the door will be put in an unlocked position by the instructor.
- Any other time (open lab) you must swipe your card to gain access. Do not prop the door open or tailgate (follow behind someone who opened the door, without scanning your own card). Also, you should not open the door for someone else - doing so means you will be responsible for their actions!
- In exceptional circumstances, students may use the lab after the building closes, provided they carefully follow these rules:
- No one is allowed to enter the building after the outside doors are closed. Once you leave the building, there is no returning. Propping the outside door open is cause for an immediate revocation of your right to stay after hours.
- Call security (x5036, 394-2922 cell) before the closing of the building to let them know of your intent to stay after hours.
- Restrict yourself to the C13 lab and possibly the restrooms. All other rooms are off limits.
- Under no circumstances should you open any doors for someone else.
- Be advised that there is a webcam in the lab which puts timed snapshots of the room on the department’s webpage.
- Note the times that a class is scheduled in C13 (posted on the bulletin board and the web); the lab is not available during those times.
- Do not share the local machine password with anyone else.
- Do not move equipment/furniture or take it out of the lab.
- Do not remove the glass cover from the desks!
- All computers are protected with the DeepFreeze program, which will reset the machine to a standard configuration each time it is rebooted.
- Save your files to a USB disk rather than the local hard drive.
- Please do not customize settings (such as wallpaper, screensaver, etc.) because they will affect other users (until the next reboot).
- Do not install new software unless you get prior approval from a faculty member in the MAT/CSC department (note that a "permanent" install requires that the instructor temporarily disable DeepFreeze during the install).
- Students may bring their own laptop to the lab - WIFI access is available.
- Use the lab for class work only. Please use the general labs for non-specialized needs such as email, web-surfing, word processing, etc.
- Do not abuse your printing privileges. Only a single copy of documents should be printed.
- Do not leave a machine unattended or lock the workstation for more than 10 minutes.
- No unauthorized use of the audio or projection system.
- Please do not eat or drink in the lab.
