Spring Break Mission to RIFA
Students, faculty and staff members of the UUSOP gave up 3 days of their Spring Break to conduct a health screening mission at Regional Inter-Faith Association located in downtown Jackson, TN. More than 50 patients were screened over the 3 days. Screenings included body mass index (BMI), blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol checks. In addition to the screenings, patient education was offered regarding achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight, healthy eating, and managing diabetes and high blood pressure. Members of the SOP family also participated in daily chapel services, served in the soup kitchen, and packed bags of food for the RIFA Snack Backpack Program which sends food home with school children every Friday during the school year who might not get a meal until they come back to school the next Monday.
WTH Adventures in Healthcare
Staff and students participated in the West Tennessee Healthcare (WTH) Adventures in Healthcare Expo geared toward high school students with an interest in a healthcare profession. High schools from all over West Tennessee brought in students to visit with exhibitors and participate in hands-on learning "labs" which included pharmacy compounding, pharmacy math and medication dispensing.
