APPE and IPPE Preceptors of the Year

Dr. Michelle Blanton receives a preceptor of the year award. The Union University School of Pharmacy presented Dr. Michelle Blanton and Dr. Kevin Coffer with 2012 Preceptor of the Year Awards at the School of Pharmacy's Fourth Annual Pharmacy Preceptor Appreciation Banquet. The banquet was held on Thursday, March 8th at the Carl Grant Events Center on the Jackson campus of Union University. The awards were presented by the senior class president, Ashley Turner, of Humboldt, Tennessee.

Preceptor of the Year Award recipients are nominated by the students of the School of Pharmacy. Drs. Blanton and Coffer are the third recipients of this prestigious award. Nominees are pharmacists who have demonstrated an exceptional ability to train students in various areas of pharmacy practice and have supported the mission of Union University. Previous award recipients are Dr. Greg Edgin and Dr. Marilyn Hutchison.

Dr. Blanton was the recipient of the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Preceptor of the Year Award. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy, she is the pharmacist and owner of DuVall Drugs in Humboldt, Tennessee. She has served as a preceptor for the Union University School of Pharmacy since the school began in 2008. She also serves the University as a member of the Community Pharmacy Practice Advisory Council and as a guest lecturer.

Dr. Kevin Coffer receives a preceptor of the year award.

Dr. Coffer was the recipient of the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Preceptor of the Year Award. A graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, he is a Nutritional Support Clinical Pharmacy Specialist and Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He has served as a preceptor for the Union University School of Pharmacy since the school began in 2008. He also serves as a member of the Clinical Practice Advisory Council for the School of Pharmacy.
