The School of Pharmacy at Union University

Greetings from the School of Pharmacy at Union University!

Sheila MitchellWelcome to our website. Our hope is that this site will serve as a resource as you embark on your journey into the world of professional pharmacy education. It will provide information about our program as well as the unique learning atmosphere that you will experience at Union University, where we are truly building a different kind of pharmacy school from the ground up.

Union University has been recognized for excellence by such prestigious national publications as U. S. News and World Report, Time/Princeton Review, Peterson's Competitive Colleges, America's Best Christian Colleges, and others. At Union you will find education characterized by rigorous academic pursuit and authentic Christian commitment in a community of forward-thinking faculty, staff, and students committed to these ideals.

The new School of Pharmacy has been established in this same great tradition, educating and equipping young pharmacists to enter practice as confident, prepared individuals motivated by excellence and a desire to serve. The challenges facing the health care community in the 21st century are numerous, and practitioners will need excellent pharmaceutical, professional, and ethical training in order to deal with these challenges. Union University will equip you to competently practice in the complex and ever changing arena of pharmacy. Further, and most significantly, pharmacy education at Union University brings forward the University's commitment to ask important questions about faith. At Union, we will explore what the Christian faith and intellectual tradition bring to bear on the subject matter we study as pharmacists.

There are many new and exciting things happening in the School of Pharmacy. The members of the inaugural class have started their academic endeavors with classes that began on August 27, 2008. The pharmacy faculty and I are currently working with architects to design a new, state-of-the-art facility completely dedicated to the study of pharmacy. We are working with various mission sites, locally and overseas, to organize medical mission opportunities in the coming years for our students.

We are also pleased to announce that we are on schedule with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and have completed all required steps to date toward achieving accreditation. Our program at Union University was awarded candidate status during the June 2009 meeting of the ACPE Board of Directors, following discussion with University and School officials at our on-site evaluation conducted in April 2009.

I hope that you will take the time to explore Union's School of Pharmacy as a possibility for your professional training. I invite you not only to look around our website, but to give us a call and schedule a visit to our campus. Come and see what makes us distinctly different!

Blessings,
Sheila Mitchell, Pharm.D., FASHP
