COVID-19 Update

Posted March 11, 2020 and sent to all Jackson campus students

Thankfully, as of March 11, there are no reported cases of COVID-19 at Union University or in Jackson/Madison County. According to Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercy, only 165 test kits are available to the entire state of Tennessee as of March 10, and those being tested are limited by very strict criteria. As soon as the Madison County Health Department releases official reports of confirmed cases in Madison County or in the surrounding communities, we will share that information with you.

As happens during events such as this, speculation and rumors tend to outpace facts; therefore, please do not rely solely on social media for information concerning COVID-19. Currently, all classes, programs, and events will continue as scheduled. Should that change, official communication will be delivered via uu.edu, Union email, and UUAlerts.

For those in the Union community who have significant underlying health conditions, it would be prudent for you to contact your primary care provider for guidance as to what steps you should take in the event local cases are reported. For the entire campus community, please know that your health and safety are our primary concern. Additionally, we understand that the uncertainty of this situation may cause significant anxiety; relatedly, if you would like to speak with someone, please contact Counseling Services and/or Health Services.

University administration and the COVID-19 Task Force are diligently monitoring the situation and preparing contingency plans. In light of all of this, be reminded that we serve a sovereign God in whom we have full confidence!

Blessings,
