It is not a stretch to say that education is society's essential profession. Without good teachers we will not have good doctors, engineers, lawyers, or politicians. "Good education" has a holistic meaning at Union University where a commitment exists to develop the very best in classroom teachers and leaders to serve our schools. This commitment is evidenced by national accreditation by NCATE in all of our education programs, by an award-winning learning community in moral and ethical dimensions, and by baccalaureate through doctoral degree programs offered by the School of Education which serve preschool through secondary education.
We live in challenging times for this nation's schools where good intentions abound in meeting the goal of equal and high quality education for all students. Union's core values of being excellence-driven, Christ-centered, people-focused, and future-directed is a summative statement by the university in its ongoing commitment to meet this goal. It was Abraham Lincoln who said, "The philosophy of the classroom is the philosophy of the government for the next generation." We at Union pledge anew to keep the sacred trust in service to society's essential profession.
