Technology in the Classroom
Research & Practice | Web Resources | Conferences
The history of instructional technology takes me back to the classroom as a child, reflecting on special teachable moments when my teachers uncovered or rolled in the film projector, the 16mm “movie” projector, the film-cassette projector, the language master, or—on a special occasion (i.e., the inauguration of a president) the black and white television set. It was as a young teacher that I used my first overhead projector. Since then, my own children have felt the impact of graphic calculators (with so many “special” features for which we paid dearly), laser disc players, Beta and VHS cassette players, CD players, digital cameras, scanners, PDAs, DVD players, C-Pens, iPads and on and on.
Microcomputers were introduced into the classroom almost 25 years ago. As teachers and learners, we have lived the timeline from Apple IIE to today’s PC and Macintosh platforms. It is amazing to think that today’s personal computer has more power than an entire lab of the earliest machines. We have experienced a tremendous change in technology!
- How have these changes affected the way we teach?
- How have these changes affected the way students learn?
- How have these changes affected the way students use computers in the classroom and beyond?
- What are the most effective uses of technology in today’s teaching and learning?
- How accountable are we for technology integration and infusion into the academic curriculum?
- Where can we go for help with our questions and technology challenges?
We will provide resources, guidelines, and JobAids for the answers to these questions and many more.
Learning more together,
