Champions are made of people who focus on having traits that others would want to emulate, according to University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban.
“I have not coached one player who really cared anything about what I knew as a coach, until the player knew I cared about him,” Saban said. “You have to show that you care for other people and you have to be willing to serve other people. I always ask people to ask themselves, ‘Do you pray to be blessed or do you pray to be a blessing?’”
Saban was the keynote speaker for Union University’s fifth annual Roy L. White Legacy Golf and Gala May 6 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. On a night when Andrew Luck was the first selection in the 2012 NFL draft, a former top pick told stories of his own playing days to a crowd of Union University supporters.
Terry Bradshaw, the former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and current FOX Sports analyst, was the keynote speaker for Union’s fourth annual Roy L. White Legacy Golf and Gala at the Carl Perkins Civic Center April 26.
“You should be eternally happy that God has given you a life and given you happiness, I hope,” Bradshaw said. “He’s given you an understanding of how to accept the grace that he’s given you. He’s also given you an understanding of how to accept the failures in our life.” READ MORE
Today’s youth need adults to be actively involved in their lives to encourage them to be “uncommon,” according to former NFL coach Tony Dungy.
“You never know what small step can make a big difference in young people’s lives,” Dungy said.
Dungy was the keynote speaker for Union University’s third annual Roy L. White Legacy Golf and Gala April 18 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. The banquet event drew about 1,500 people, raising $375,000 for the university, and completed a day that began with a golf tournament at the Jackson Country Club. READ MORE
