Web Development Specialist

Full-time Staff Position
Campus: Jackson

Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Web Development Specialist.

Union University is a private, coeducational liberal arts-based university offering bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. Position Description:

This position is an entry-level position that works directly with the Web Development Agent to further enhance Union University’s web presence. Responsibilities include:

  • Work directly with campus entities in developing the content and aesthetics of their websites. This will additionally include working with a content management system and providing training to the campus entities in their use of such system.
     
  • Organize, develop and position university media assets for display on the Union website. This will include editing the Union Projects (Photo, Audio, Video, Book and Scholarship) by uploading files and writing captions/descriptions for many of the media assets.
     
  • Assist university communications in the management of and interaction on various social medial tools like YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, etc.
     
  • Assist the web development agent in maintaining Union’s corporate web presence and in the production of web applications.
     
  • Develop graphics, templates, and website designs using applications such as Dreamweaver, PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Flash.
     
  • Other duties as directed by the Web Development Agent.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in a related area of study- communication arts, computer science, graphic design, digital media studies, etc.

This position requires a well-developed understanding of:

  • Web standards - HTML/XHTML and CSS.
     
  • Web architecture.
     
  • Online graphics optimization.
     
  • Online document and media delivery.
     
  • Connecting databases with websites.
     
  • Javascript and XML/RSS.
     
  • Basic Disc Development.

Strong communication skills, proven skills in working with students and volunteers, professional work habits and a team-oriented attitude are required.
