Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Olford Center Library Assistant.

Position Description:

This position is responsible for the general supervision of the Olford Center library. It supports the learning experiences of students, faculty, and staff of the Center by interacting with the Center’s learning community to coordinate effective library services.

• Supervises the Olford Center library during assigned hours
   
• Assists students and faculty with utilizing the Center’s collection as well as resources from the University’s main campus library
   
• Reviews and updates the bibliographic records of Center’s collection as needed
   
• Collaborates with University librarians for the provision of library instruction
   
• Maintains the Center’s collection according to the Dewey classification scheme
   
• Ensures that all library system records are maintained according to acceptable library standards
   
• Collaborates with Olford Center Technology Coordinator on the development of systems functionality and reporting
   
• Prepares regular statistical report on library collection and use of the facility
   
• Advises the Germantown Librarian about resources needed to support the Center’s library
   
• Works a flexible schedule that includes evening and/or weekend hours
   
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working in a library.  Formal coursework in Christian theology and/or Biblical studies will be helpful. 

Successful candidates must be professing Christians who are active members of a local church, enthusiastically support Union University’s Identity, Mission and Core Values, and articulate a Christian worldview in their work and life.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

This position involves the effective knowledge of Dewey decimal classification, standard computer applications, and online databases. The skills required include excellent customer service and accomplished research. The ability to work independently, think critically, and communicate effectively is essential to success. 

Physical Requirements:

The work performed by this position is of a general administrative nature. Work performed does require some daily instances of bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 25 pounds.
