Union's portal provides organized services and resources targeted to the university's two main internal groups, students and employees. Because portal.uu.edu is for internal use only, a password-based sign-in is required to access the site.
To learn how to sign into the portal, visit www.uu.edu/portal.
Each link below will expand to provide more information about an aspect of the portal.
Once you are signed into the portal, it will give you access to other selected systems that would normally require a sign-in or sign-on. This is known as single-sign-on (SSO) access.
After sign-in, the portal can pass along your identity to specific other systems such as your e-mail and calendar. You can learn more about your e-mail by clicking the Info link under the Student Resources or Employee Resources header on the right side of this page. (Employees: To connect the portal to your e-mail, perform a one-time setup by clicking 'Enter your credentials' in the My Week section of the portal's home page. You can read more about this on the portal's red Help menu.)
Students and employees have SSO access to MoodleRooms through the portal, to access online course content. This requires a one-time setup process. This process is explained on the portal tab titled 'My Classes - 1-time setup.'
Students and employees also have SSO access to WebAdvisor through the portal, to check mid-term and final grades, view financial information, etc. For students and employees who have used the webadvisor.uu.edu web site in the past, the interface will be different but the tools available are the same. There is no setup required to use WebAdvisor within the portal. You can learn more about WebAdvisor by clicking its Info link under the Student Resources or Employee Resources header on the right side of this page.
Employees that use Ellucian Colleague can access it from the Applications section in the right column of the portal's home page. This requires a one-time setup process. This process is explained in the Applications section, by using the link 'First-time setup for Ellucian Colleague UI.'
Other systems linked from the portal still require a sign-in.
Portal services fall into three main groups.
My Classes is devoted to accessing academic classes in which you participate. This will work in conjunction with MoodleRooms, the university's learning management system.
My Team Sites initially shows an Organization header/link if you have been assigned access to any team sites (described below). By clicking Organization you will see links for any portal sites dedicated to groups of which you are a member. If you join another group that has a portal site, its site link will appear in the Organization list within 24 hours after you are added into the system for membership.
My Week - If you are taking or teaching Union classes, those will appear in your My Week calendar. Employees: If you see 'enter your credentials' at the top of the calendar, click it and you will be prompted to type your username and password. Doing this one-time setup will connect your portal constituency page to your private Union e-mail, calendar and tasks. From then on, every time you sign into the portal you will see near-term calendar entries from your Union e-mail/calendar account displayed in the calendar. (Note: If you change your Union password, you will need to update this single-sign-on password as well.)
My ToDo - If you use the task feature in your Union e-mail/calendar system, those tasks will appear here.
My UU Email Inbox Access - The 'unread messages' count is the number of messages that are marked unread in your Union e-mail inbox. Clicking the unread-message link will open a window for the web-based version of your e-mail, just as if you had signed into www.outlook.com/my.uu.edu (for students) or webmail.uu.edu (for employees).
Announcements will display messages that impact a significant number of people, such as all Germantown students, all faculty and staff at all campuses, etc. Messages historically sent as mass mailings through e-mail can now be distributed here. One advantage of posting an announcement in the portal over sending an e-mail is that e-mail goes only to those people who have a university e-mail address when the message is sent. Portal announcements will be available to employees or students who join the university after the message is sent.
E-nnouncements are departmental announcements, grouped by campus, category or classification.
UU Events and UU News give you convenient access to stories about the university. They provide headlines linked to more information about events in the future and news about things that happened in the past, respectively. Both lists are identical to the events and news stories displayed on www.uu.edu.
UU Athletics Events and UU Athletics News provide content from the university's official sports site www.uuathletics.com
UU Event Slides & Pictures are the same images shown on the large displays in the hallways on the Jackson campus. They provide information about departmental/group events or services. A slide-show feature allows you to view/control the slides.
UNews student broadcast presents a brief video overview of near-term university events and information.
WebAdvisor - WebAdvisor services allow you to view mid-term and final grades, financial information, classes, etc. For students and employees who have used the webadvisor.uu.edu web site in the past, the interface will be different but the tools available are the same. You can learn more about WebAdvisor by clicking its Info link under the Student Resources or Employee Resources header on the right side of this page. WebAdvisor Printing Tips are also provided for browser-specific printing of pay advices (pay stubs), W-2 statements, total compensation or class rosters.
Applications - Employees can use the UI link to access Ellucian Colleague if they have job duties requiring it. Like the e-mail/calendar access above, Ellucian Colleague UI use does require a one-time setup process for SSO. (Note: If you change your Union password, you will need to update this single-sign-on password as well.) You can read about this first-time setup process by clicking that link on the Applications tab of the portal constituency page. After that setup process, you can get into Ellucian Colleague via the portal without having to sign into Colleague again. You can learn more about Ellucian Colleague by clicking its Info link under the Employee Resources header on the right side of this page.

Services and resources are targeted to students or employees, our two main constituency groups. This is done through the use of three kinds of portal sites.
A constituency site is very similar to a home page for a web site. It is your starting point when you sign into the main portal.uu.edu site. Union's portal has two constituency sites - one for all students and one for all employees. The two constituency sites look very similar.
When you sign into the portal, your username will determine which constituency page you will see. Students will see the student constituency site; they will not see any employee-only information. Employees are always initially directed to the employee constituency page but they can use the red Home menu to see the student site if needed.
An information site is generally a resource for one-way information sharing from a department/group to either or both constituencies.
One example of an information site is Human Resources. Employees will find it listed on the portal's UU Resources menu. The HR site contain all employee benefit information - health insurance, dental/vision coverage, retirement, etc. Future resources will include: internal forms and processes for hiring; staff development; university organizational charts.
Another example is the Academic Center's information site. Students and employees will find it listed on the portal's Academic Resources menu. This site contains curriculum maps for every academic program's major/minor and emphasis/track/concentration. Each map represents a term-by-term list of courses that a student should take to complete a specific degree. In the past, these maps were directly available only to university employees. Additional resources are available for degree-audit review.
A team site is a space for private information sharing and collaboration among members of small groups with defined membership. Resources and services can include file sharing/editing, discussion forums, announcements, calendar/events and more. Only members of the team are able to access the team site.
- Depending on how you are involved in the university, you may have access to several team sites.
- Teams can have only employee members, a mix of employees and students, or mainly students (with an approved faculty/staff sponsor).
- Note that team sites are not meant to substitute for LMS sites set up for university classes.
- To get to any of your team sites, on your constituency page (portal home page) click the My Team Sites tab, then click Organization. You will see a list of team sites for which you are a member.
- To give you an idea of how a team site can be used, here are some existing team sites:
- Institutional Effectiveness & Research - provides sample reviews, announcements, event/deadline dates, etc. to areas currently working on an Academic Program Review or a University Services Review; also has private space for IER administration
- Information Technology Committee - support for a standing university committee
- IT Student Lab Assistants - information sharing between staff supervisor and student workers
