Athletic Training Education @ Union University

Union University is proud to offer an educational foundation for an exciting and rewarding career in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. A career as a certified athletic trainer offers a great working environment with a variety of work settings. Certified Athletic Trainers interact daily with athletes, coaches, physicians, physical therapists and other medical professionals whom are involved in the realm of sports medicine. This program offers a great opportunity to grow professionally in the medical, technical, and practical knowledge of the sports medicine industry. The National Athletic Trainer's Association defines a Certified Athletic Trainer as "a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care. In cooperation with physicians, and other allied health personnel, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs, and other athletic health care settings." Dionna LinnUnion University's Athletic Training Education Program and the The Department of Physical Education, Wellness and Sport is proud to recognize the accomplishments of Dionna Linn, recipient of the 2013 Tennessee Athletic Trainer's Society (TATS) Undergraduate Scholarship. Dionna was awarded the $1,000 scholarship at the TATS Annual Meeting and Symposium in Nashville, Tennessee on January 19, 2013. The TATS Undergraduate Scholarship is awarded annually to the most outstanding student majoring in athletic training in the state of Tennessee. Dionna is the fifth Union University Athletic Training Student to receive the award in the past seven years. Past recipients include Tina Smith (2006), Sean Wadley (2008), Megan Tobosa (2009), and Blake Mashour (2011). Dionna, a junior in academic standing, hails from Whitestown, Indiana, is a starter on Union's women's soccer team, and sports a 4.0 GPA.
