The Office of Student Leadership & Engagement seeks to develop student leaders who are well prepared to integrate
their faith and knowledge in leadership opportunities on our campus and in the community. By recognizing that all students
have the ability to influence others, the Office of Student Leadership & Engagement facilitates student involvement in
campus life through a variety of programs, workshops, and organizations where they can further develop and enhance their leadership potential.

Jason Castles, Assistant Dean of Students & Director
Education: BSBA in Management, Union University; M.Ed. in College Student Affairs, University of South Florida; Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Union University
Jason returned to Union in 2007. Prior to that, Jason worked in Undergraduate Admissions as an Enrollment Counselor at Union. Then, he worked in the Student Activities Department at the University of South Florida. Jason went on to work at Washington University in St. Louis in the Community Service Office. He currently provides oversight for the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement and Wellness Services. Primarily, Jason advises the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Class Councils as well as the Executive Council for the Student Government Association. He also advises the Interfraternity Council and men's fraternities on campus and works with the 70+ student organizations on campus. Jason enjoys working with students as they utilize the gifts with which God has equipped them and assisting them as they translate what they are learning in the classroom to their place of involvement on campus and in the community.
Karen Taylor, Associate Director
Education: BSBA in Marketing/Advertising, Union University; M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration, Dallas Baptist University
Karen has served on the Student Life staff at Union University since the summer of 2005. After graduating from Union, Karen worked for three years in human resources for a local book publisher and distribution center. Since returning to Union, she has had the great opportunity to meet and work with hundreds of students leaders. Her main areas of responsibility include advising the Student Government Association's Freshman Council, Panhellenic Council and women's sororities on campus, organizing the annual Student Leadership Conference and workshops, and assisting with New Student Orientation each fall. In addition to working with numerous other students organizations on campus, Karen also co-led the university's GO Germany team for five years. Karen enjoys mentoring students and helping them discover their leadership potential.
Jared Dauenhauer, Assistant Director
Education: BA in Film and Digital Media, Baylor University; M.S.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Baylor University
Jared recently finished his M.S.Ed. at Baylor University and joined the Student Life team at Union University in the summer of 2012. While at Baylor, Jared served in New Student Programs where he worked on orientation as well as extended orientation programs for incoming students. He currently oversees the school's new student orientation program (Focus), advises Union's Student Activities Council, and aides in the supervision of the University's student organizations. Jared loves working in student services, and is passionate about his student's success.
