The Classics major at Union University engages the history, language, philosophy, art, and literature of ancient civilizations with particular attention to Greece, Rome, and the ancient Near East, including the contexts that shaped the development of Judaism and Christianity. Tracks
Classical Civilizations Track
The Classical Civilizations emphasis within the Classics major focuses on the history, culture, art, and literature of ancient Greece and Rome. Students develop a rich understanding of the ancient world and its enduring influence on Western civilization, Christian thought, and contemporary culture.
Classical Languages Track
The Classical Languages emphasis within the Classics major develops students’ proficiency in Greek and/or Latin alongside a deep engagement with ancient history, literature, and culture. Students are equipped for graduate study, biblical scholarship, theological work, and careers that require advanced language and analytical skills.
