Justin D. Barnard

About

Justin Barnard has served at Union since 2007.  He loves the pursuit of wisdom in such areas as the nature of human personhood, ethics (virtue, bioethics, technology and human flourishing), and the work of C.S. Lewis.  In 2025, Barnard was selected as a Fellow of the Inklings Project.  He is currently in a protracted intellectual entanglement with Lewis’s, Till We Have Faces, a work about which he hopes to eventually publish a book.  In 2013, Barnard received the Carla D. Sanderson Faculty of the Year Award at Union.  He and wife, Tracie, are the proud parents of two Union alums: Nate (2024) and Luke (2028).  Barnard is a Floridian living in exile: an avid fan of Seinfeld who enjoys cooking, philosophical walks, watching college football, and mowing his suburban yard.
