Lewis joins Union University as MCUTS dean

Kenneth Lewis has been named dean for the Memphis College of Urban and Theological Studies at Union University.

Lewis previously taught at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and served as the associate dean of graduate programs and director of information services there. He is pastor of Briarwood Community Church in Cordova, Tennessee, a position he will continue to hold.

“Dr. Lewis brings both academic and pastoral experience to his leadership role at MCUTS,” Union University Provost John Netland said. “He has a passion for the gospel and for equipping people for service to the church. I deeply appreciate his people-focused leadership practices and his commitment to theological education that will serve the people of Memphis.”

Lewis completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Mississippi State University. After being called into the ministry, he completed a Bachelor of Theology degree from Huntsville Bible College. He earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary.

After graduating, he served as the dean for the Doctor of Ministry program at Mid-America and as assistant professor of practical theology, New Testament and church history.

Lewis is grateful and excited for the opportunity to serve as dean and professor of pastoral ministry for MCUTS.

“My prayer is that our students will grow in God’s grace and fulfill his purpose through their matriculation here,” Lewis said. “This role provides to me the privilege of being a part of God’s work at MCUTS of cultivating faith and transforming futures. I look forward to seeing how God uses our team to further the mission of developing students to serve effectively and missionally for Christ, his church and the community.”
