Union launches Master of Arts in Bible and Theology in Memphis

Union University trustees have approved a new graduate theology program for the university.

The Master of Arts in Bible and Theology begins the fall of 2024. The cohort-based, in-person classes will be taught at Union’s Midtown/Memphis campus.

The MABT is designed for pastors and church leaders who want in-depth biblical and theological preparation. The 42-hour degree will include 18 hours of biblical languages and 24 hours of theology. The MABT is designed for students with a high level of undergraduate academic preparation. The degree will open doors for students who desire further study after completing the program.

“In a day when so much of graduate theological education is going online, I am delighted to be able to offer such a high-quality, in-person graduate program taught by solid, Southern Baptist pastors who combine the highest levels of academic training and long-term pastoral experience,” said Ray Van Neste, dean for Union’s School of Theology and Missions.

MABT professors will include several Memphis-area pastors of Southern Baptist churches:

• Matt Sliger (Ph.D., Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary)
• Dallas Pitts (Ph.D., Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary)
• Mathew Crawford (Ph.D., Southern Baptist Theological Seminary)
• Jason Mackey (Ph.D., Southern Baptist Theological Seminary)
