Union to serve Jackson area Oct. 27 during 24th annual Campus and Community Day
- October 22, 2026
JACKSON, Tenn. — Hundreds of Union University students, faculty and staff members will participate in more than 30 projects in Jackson and across West Tennessee Oct. 27 as part of Union’s 24th annual “Campus and Community: A Day of Remembrance and Service.”
The event is an opportunity for Union to show its appreciation to the community for its assistance after tornadoes hit the campus in 2002, 2003 and 2008. Union cancels most classes on this day each year to allow the university community to participate in projects at such places as local schools, churches, nursing homes and social organizations.
At Cypress Grove Nature Park, for example, volunteers will work on a number of beautification projects. At Regional Inter-Faith Association, students will work in the food pantry, pack snack backpacks, serve in the soup kitchen and assist in the thrift store. At Jackson-Madison County Foster Association, a Union crew will help organize donations.
Other volunteer sites include Thelma Baker Elementary School, the Boys & Girls Club of Humboldt, Englewood Baptist Church, Birth Choice, the STAR Center, Kirkland Cancer Center and many others.
This year’s Campus and Community activities will begin with a rally at the tornado memorial in the center of the quads at 8 a.m. Around 9 a.m., student groups will depart to their assigned projects, most of which will be completed by mid-afternoon.
