Union’s first core value is "excellence-driven." You’ll gain knowledge from
faculty members who not only are leaders in their fields, but who are committed
to serving as mentors, coaches and advisors to their students. They’re people
who are committed to classroom teaching and the highest levels of scholarship.
The student/teacher ratio at Union is 11 to 1. That’s among the best ratios
you’ll see at any university.
At Union, we not only recruit great students like you – we also recruit some
of the finest faculty members anywhere.
One example: as Micah Watson finished his Ph.D. in political science at
Princeton University, Union made his hiring a priority because his level of
scholarship and commitment to Christian higher education fits well with our
excellencedriven approach. Scholars of his ability are desired at universities
all across America, but he chose to invest his talents at Union.
Dr.Watson leads our Center for Religion and Politics, a new resource to help
students, the evangelical community and the American public think through these
important ideas.
Excellence-driven at Union means a commitment to educating the nation’s top
students. In recent years, the Scholars of Excellence program has brought
hundreds of top students to campus for a weekend of interviews, discussions and
fellowship. Scholars of Excellence candidates have a minimum 31 ACT or 1360 SAT
(combined critical reading and math). Everyone invited to compete during
Scholars of Excellence weekend receives offers of significant assistance, from
at least $9500 to full tuition, room and board.
But Union is also committed to helping students who may fall short of some
minimum admission requirements through its acclaimed Keystone Program. Through
this program, students are given tools to succeed at Union, with many achieving
a level of academic success they may not have thought possible.
At Union, all students become part of an environment where excellence is
expected. For more than a decade, Union University has been ranked as a top-tier
institution by U.S. News and World Report. Our students are encouraged to invest
themselves in their education and to let the best in themselves come to the
forefront. That’s why excellence is our first core value.
