"We want to involve our
alumni and friends in our dreams - to turn out young
people who can make a difference."

"No
part of my life has been left untouched by Union.
And it's been fantastic."

2000-2001 President of Student Government Association |
The richness of Union’s history, as well as the quality of the
Union family, needs to be reflected in the appearance of its
campus. In addition to renovating existing buildings, Union
will also develop nearly 100 acres of the West Campus. Located
near Jennings Hall, Miller Tower and the Great Lawn will
provide an important scenic gathering place, fostering a sense
of unity and pride in the campus. A new entrance on Pleasant
Plains Road, new roads and walkways, and other improvements
are important features of Union’s enhanced campus.
Improving existing buildings and technology is an important
part of maintaining the quality facilities needed at Union. The
university will renovate existing buildings and upgrade
technology. Every residence complex will be wired for Internet
access, and labs and computer systems across campus will be
upgraded.
Union also needs quality facilities for national-caliber
competition in varsity sports. Union’s baseball program has
been significantly strengthened by the quality of its new
field, which is the equivalent of an AA professional baseball
field. If Union is to remain competitive, upgrades and new
facilities are needed in other sports, such as softball,
tennis, and soccer.
The construction of a lighted soccer field will allow for
the expansion of the soccer programs, an important addition to
Union’s athletic department. To maintain Union’s competitive
edge in tennis, the existing tennis courts need to be
upgraded. These will complement the addition of indoor tennis
courts, made possible by a gift from one of Union’s leading
sports program advocates. The women’s softball field also will
be improved with the addition of lights.
The improvements provide greatly needed practical
solutions, including new roads, renovated classrooms and
athletic fields, as well as architectural enhancements. The
Miller Tower will serve as an important symbol of the
university and its unique heritage, while the Great Lawn will
dramatically complement the appearance of the West Campus.
Union’s vision of excellence, which is at the heart of the
“Building a Future” campaign, will be physically represented
by these important campus improvements.
