| Jennings Hall will provide state-of-the-art classroom
facilities for Union’s outstanding programs in Christian
Studies, communication arts and music. The Georgian style of
this three-story building greatly enhances the look of the
newly developed West Campus. In addition, the design of
Jennings Hall will allow for a greater sense of community
among students and professors by providing more gathering
places for discussions outside of the classroom.
Union celebrated the official opening of Jennings Hall and
the university’s West Campus with a dedication ceremony held
December 1, 2000. Jennings Hall is still undergoing
completion, and funding is urgently needed to realize the
university’s ultimate goals for this important addition to the
Union campus.
Jennings Hall will play a vital role in equipping leaders
for the 21st century. Hands-on interaction with advanced
technology prepares students for career opportunities in high
tech fields. A new major, Digital Media Studies, combines the
disciplines of computer science, art and communication arts,
providing students with excellent preparation for becoming
computer graphic artists or Webmasters.
Communication arts students will benefit from a new,
high-tech broadcasting studio, as well as new classrooms with
features promoting a more effective study of communications.
Music students will enjoy state-of-the-art performance and
practice facilities, including new music composition
equipment, which will have a major impact on the way students
study composition.
Union’s nationally-acclaimed Christian Studies program will
benefit from the Greek and Hebrew language lab and the Center
for Biblical Studies housed in Jennings Hall. The R.C. Ryan
Center for Biblical Studies, which reflects Union’s commitment
to continually providing assets for the community, will be a
resource for local pastors, church leaders, and others doing
Biblical research. In the future, the university hopes to put
the reference materials found in the center on the Internet to
make them accessible to missionaries worldwide.
A generous gift by Union Trustee James Ayers has provided a
significant portion of the funding for Jennings Hall. Yet the
full promise of Jennings Hall will be realized only with the
support of additional university friends, who are committed to
helping Union provide the setting in which to prepare students
with excellence.
