Science Building Goal:
$8.5 Million |
Gift Needs
for the Science Building
| Union is gaining national recognition for the quality of
its science program and for its ability to provide students
with excellent preparation for entering graduate or
professional school, or careers in scientific fields. Union’s
programs offer the unique approach foundational to the
university’s philosophy: the integration of faith and
learning. Teaching science from a Christian worldview is part
of Union’s commitment to producing strong leaders who will
make a difference. To ensure the continuing success of Union’s
outstanding science program, additional resources are urgently
needed. Enlarged laboratory facilities and new equipment are
essential to the growth of Union’s science program. The
success of the university’s science program has been built
upon the quality of instruction and research. Through
corporate gifts, funded scientific research is completed each
year at Union. This research allows Union students to make
valuable contributions to partner corporations and furthers
Union’s reputation in the national scientific community.
Additional research space will increase opportunities for
expansion of funded research in the future.
In addition to providing space for growing programs in the
natural sciences (biology and chemistry), the science building
will also house growing programs in physics, mathematics and
computer science. The facility, to be located on the West
Campus, will be constructed to allow for the addition and
expansion of new programs, such as the creation of an
engineering degree which will respond to growing needs in the
Jackson community and West Tennessee.
Union will continue the process of improving the learning
environment in the science area by constructing modern
classrooms that promote professor and student interaction and
purchasing additional key pieces of scientific equipment.
Union firmly believes that an investment in science is an
investment in the future for everyone. Through a generous lead
gift of Union Trustee Roy L.White, the effort to provide such
a facility has been launched. Now the support of additional
friends is essential in our endeavor to provide excellent
preparation for leaders entering scientific fields.

"I
have never doubted the call to teach, I love it because I
am investing in students and the opportunity to see
students realize their dreams is a great reward."
