School of Education Celebrates Multiple Events
May 30, 2003 - The School of Education celebrated three events before Graduation on Saturday, May 24. All graduating seniors in Teacher Education were honored at a pinning ceremony. The pins were symbols of their call to teach and represent the best wishes of the School of Education. Drs. Rosebrough and Singleton presided at this event. The cording ceremony and ritual for Kappa Delta Pi was conducted by Dr. Elizabeth Vaughn-Neely and Ms. Jen Girten, doctoral student and graduate president of the Omega Lambda chapter of the international honor society in education. During this event, honor cords were given to KDP members. Other faculty participating in the ceremony were Drs. Myatt and Leverett.
A highlight of all three ceremonies was the recognition of the Krei family whose gift of $75,000 will provide scholarships for students in Teacher Education. The first two recipients are Tara Chananukul and Lee Ann Williams. Dr. Dockery presented a framed document of gratitude for the scholarship to Dr. Melinda Krei who represented her family at the ceremony. Dr. Krei and her husband, Kenneth, are Union graduates. They reside in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
