Handford to perform at annual McAfee Concert Sept. 30

Kathrine Handford will be the featured guest organist at this year’s annual Carolyn Townsend McAfee Concert Sept. 30, presented by the Union University Department of Music.

Handford has presented recitals in the United States, Canada, England, Italy, France and Scandinavia. She was the winner of the 35th International J.S. Bach Competition held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and she received first prize in the John R. Rodland Scholarship Competition in New Jersey.

She is director of music and organist at the Church of St. Mark in St. Paul, Minnesota, and serves as university organist and instructor of organ at Concordia University in St. Paul.

Handford holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Concordia College and the Eastman School of Music. In 2020, she received a diploma in recording and production arts from the University of Stavanger in Norway.

The concert is made possible by a gift from the McAfee family and is named in honor of Carolyn Townsend McAfee, who graduated from Union in 1961.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel. It is free and open to the public.
