The Office of Safety and Security has the responsibility for campus security. This office is under the direct supervision of the Dean of Students. Suspicious activities involving students are reported to the Student Services Department. Non student crime and suspicious activity are reported to the Office of Safety and Security. On-campus theft is reported to the Office of Safety and Security in order to file the proper reports. If you are in imminent danger or are threatened, call the Jackson Police Department (9-911) then call Union Security. The Office of Safety and Security submits a record of crimes committed each month to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. To report a crime or suspicious activity, call Union Security at 661-5018. Security Officers patrol the campus on foot and in marked University vehicles. These officers observe and detect crimes and violations of campus security and regulations and act from an information or advisory role, rather than a regulatory agency. They are not sworn or armed police officers, but protect the campus from outside threats by restricting campus access to authorized personnel, staff, and faculty or their guests. Security officers maintain close coordination with Housing Complex Directors during hours outside regular operations. Union University faculty, staff, and students are to report all criminal incidents, threats, injuries, property loss, accidents, safety hazards, etc., to the Office of Safety and Security at 661-5018. Prompt notification helps to facilitate reporting to the necessary authorities and assists in documenting trouble spots where corrective measures can be taken, thereby enhancing crime prevention. Mission StatementThe Office of Safety and Security, in agreement with the purposes of Union University, strives to provide a safe and secure campus environment by protecting and providing assistance for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. We will be service-oriented, person-centered and distinctively Christian in all that we do.
